father would rage when he learned of it. Alarmed, I looked over the water. A feeling crept over me, as would put a shackle around my chest, which drew upon constantly. The Louvre seemed suddenly like a trap. (Page 210)
Review:
In Paris of 1609, the 15-year-old Charlotte de Montmorency meets at the Louvre, home of King Henri IV one. You should go there soon to marry the very influential Marquis de Bassompierre that is twice as old as Charlotte. Charlotte is full of anticipation of the impending reunion with her fiance because she is really in love with this man But then she surprised him one day when cheating and thus is topic number one at the court.

Charlotte is full of rage against her betrothed, the only support is her friend Sophie, a Huguenot who she met at the court. But the mysterious shadow of a man whom she sees every night at the window opposite and seems to wait for her, Charlotte can not let go. Who is behind it? And the planned marriage to De Bassompierre will take place in spite of his escapade yet?

with "Blood Red Lilies" is Kathleen, a beautiful historical novel for young people succeeded. The fact that the plot is largely based on real people and events that impact the history of Charlotte de Montmorency just a tad bit more believable. The writing style is quite simple, the plot largely predictable, but for the target group of young people aged 12 years can "Blood Red Lilies" quite meet his expectations.

Charlotte, beginning in their action and thinking very naively converts to the progress of history to a confident, independent, acting and thinking young woman. The rash is not pleasant to have clear that she catches her fiance de Bassompierre with another woman in bed. This was very unpleasant to me from the start, a vain peacock, and intent only on its own advantages, which would bring his marriage to Charlotte.

also Henri, Charlotte's brother, is not by nature different. He asks her to look beyond the deed de Bassompierre. When she refused, he turns away from her and she no longer belongs to his family. I found interesting was the figure of Angoulevent, king of the minstrels and fools of the prince de Condé. He manages to cheer up Charlotte again and I would have liked to see him in a slightly larger role. Prince of Condé is beginning a very sarcastic character, who seems to make fun of Charlotte. But shining through in some situations that he feels more for them.

is the end, "Blood Red Lilies" is a book I would recommend both young adult readers who want to try again at a historical novel. As an introduction to this genre, the book is made like that because it comes without any exaggerated Action (as you read them many times in books of this genre) from based on real characters and maintains by intrigue and machinations that give the action an additional excess of tension.

For the design of the book: The dust jacket of the book feels like a kind of wallpaper. Several vines, flowers and bird ornaments adorn the cover graphics on the lower section are highlighted in several drops of blood spot varnish look. On the inside front cover, a letter is glued, which is protected by a seal. Its content is evident from reading the book. A very nice idea!

Conclusion: "Blood Red Lilies" recommending I as an entry point into the genre of the historical novel - a story based on facts and appropriate by their writing style very easy for young readers is interested.

Rating: 4 out of 5 points
